The following blog post was written on the evening of the 11th July. Due to technological restrictions it was posted at a later date.
Our hotel in Bloem is called the College Lodge, since it is located near the University of the Free State. There is a cat that hangs out at the front desk and sometimes he is the only person working. It was funny when we came back today and our bags were “missing,” only to be found in the closet. In fact, the maid took all of our clothing (which was folded on the chairs in the room) and put them in the closet.
Our room (Allison is my roommate again) is quite small, which is nice because it warms up fast. Our toilet seat and cover is made of green wood.
There is a swimming pool and although it feels balmy compared to Lesotho, it is still only about 45F outside so I think we might skip it.
There are two huge malls within a few blocks of each other, both walking distance from our hotel. It is strange that these huge malls would be so close together-and they both seem busy all the time. One strange thing is that they close early according to American standards. For example, today is Saturday and stores close earlier than weekdays, all the stores closing between 3:00-5:00. It is nice, though, because you can do all your shopping in one place including grocery shopping. Bookstore were interesting, they had whole sections for Afrikaans books, and it was fun to see what music was on the South African top 10.

You didn't mention that Hannah Montana was traveling in your group. I bet she is loads of fun!
COOL! Harry Potter!
That's interesting to hear that their stores close earlier on the weekends than on the weekdays. That reminds me of Lake Placid and how early Main Street closes up especially on weeknights and weekends...but that's what a tourist village is like I guess!
These posts are really interesting and informative about life on that side of the world!
