Traditional Dance

The following blog post was written on the evening of 6 July. Due to technological restrictions it was posted at a later date.

Upon returning from our exciting drive today, some children greeted us at the gate and a large group performed a traditional dance for us. One boy played a drum and sang, accompanied by the other children singing. Three young girls had grass skirts on top of a skirt made of bottle caps that would bang together when dancing. The dance was very rhythmic.

A girls of boys was goofing around and were called on to perform a dance of their own, which was also very entertaining but much more modern. They were accompanied by a young man playing a bucket drum.

I talked to one of the dancers at the end of the performance and she said that she has always danced, loves to perform, and was glad that we were there to watch.
