Knysna (Niez-na)

The following blog post was written on the evening of the 3rd of August in the car driving on the Garden Route to Knysna, South Africa

What I am going to say about Knysna is blatantly obvious to anybody who has ever has the privalage of visiting the small beach town: it is simply stunning in its beauty.

The hostel experience last night left something to be desired (I was so cold, the blankets were threadbare, there was a hole in the window, and no heater, but we were welcomed into the new day by the most beautiful of mornings. We headed over to the lagoon for breakfast, but they were not open yet-so we used the time to walk around the lagoon area. There were a large number of people out walking their dogs and enjoying the first sunshine of the day.

We ate breakfast at the East Head Caffe’, which served us fantastic omelets while sitting on an incredible patio overlooking the point at which the Indian Ocean enters the Knysna lagoon. After breakfast we headed to the beach and wandered around for a while, listening to the waves hit the rocks and watching the fisherman try to catch fish. After the ground level view of the water we headed up to the overlook to see the view from above.

I would strongly recommend anybody visiting South Africa and planning on spending time in the Western Cape come to Knysna-it will not disappoint!
