Back to Formosa Textile

The following blog post was written on the evening of the 21st July. Due to technological restrictions it was posted at a later date.

After reading a post on this blog, our group was invited back to the Formosa Textile factory to see their water treatment facility. This invitation was a big surprise, since I believed that my blog was only drawing the attention of my family and friends in the U.S. Our group decided that we would accept the invitation to stop by the factory in Maseru on our way out of Lesotho this morning.

In 2007 the factory the factory began building a new water treatment facility, in addition to the structure that was created when the factory opened. The new facility does an even better job of cleaning the water than the older facility, making it possible to recycle 70% of the water back into the factory to be used again.

The remaining 30% does flow into the river, but only after the suspended material is removed from the water. We were shown the dark blue solid material that is leftover from the filtration process, which is quite impressive.
