Toys

The following blog post was written on the evening of the 20th July. Due to technological restrictions it was posted at a later date.

Toys in Lesotho are often handmade. For example, I saw many soccer balls that were made of plastic bags tightly wound around garbage and, although they did not bounce, the children seemed to enjoy almost as much as when they had a real ball. Young boys could also be seen through out Lesotho pushing wire cars. These cars are more incredible the closer you look, the turn with the steering wheel they hold in their hands to push the car (the axel actually moves) and the wheels are made out of anything from old pop cans to spools from thread.

Some of the toys remind me of pictures that I saw in the U.S. from the Great Depression, when given little to work with children are often capable of creating great amounts of fun and entertainment.
