These are two of the three books that are being read as part of the preparation for the trip to South Africa and Lesotho. For the most part the books are incredibly helpful establishing background information about South Africa history, culture, and politics. I personally find the Thompson book to be more to my liking, it moves at a slightly faster pace and I can more easily relate to the voice of his writing.
As a part of this preparation I have also been participating in an online discussion forum with the other people participating in the program this summer. It has been a wonderful opportunity to get to know the people I will be spending the summer with.
