Garbage and Recycling

The following blog post was written on the evening of the 11th July. Due to technological restrictions it was posted at a later date.

It can be incredibly difficult to find a garbage can in Lesotho or South Africa and recycling bins are nonexistent. In fact, garbage is commonplace on the sides of streets and you will often find large piles of garbage in ditches. There is also garbage all over Maseru. The garbage problem is intensified by the fact that Lesotho has no garbage pick-up or landfill. There really are not a whole lot of options for your garbage, unless you want the garbage to sit around your yard (which people keep very clean and are often sweeping).
