Durban, South Africa

The following blog post was written on the afternoon of the 30th July.

Last night Steven and I drove to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa where we stayed for the night. I also met Steven’s friend from home, Jill-who is very cool.

This morning the three of us wok up, got some breakfast, and headed to Durban. Durban is known to be the warmest of South African beach cities and I was personally very excited about seeing the Indian Ocean. The drive from Pietermaritzburg to Durban was a quick one.

When arriving in Durban we headed directly to the hostel, called the Happy Hippo. It turned out to be fantastic. Then we headed downtown to take a peak around and visit a bookstore.

Then it was off to the beach! The waves were huge and I spent some time diving through them, enjoying the feel and smell of the water. After coming out of the water it sure felt good to have the sun warm my body dry-to feel genuinely warm for the first time in over a month (it was maybe 80F, probably upper 70’s). We ended up spending much of the day sitting at the beach, reading, and enjoying the perfect weather. Tonight we are headed out to find some dinner by the beach, yum.
